2025 Honda Accord PHEV: More Than Rumor

0

The 11th generation of the legendary sedan has just arrived and once again, we can say that Honda engineers did a fantastic job in creating another excellent mid-size sedan. The new model looks more mature and brings mostly evolutionary changes, which was expected if we consider that the previous model was impressive in so many aspects. The new generation feels more upscale and offers new technologies. However, that doesn’t mean that the Japanese manufacturer is done with novelties for the next few years. From what we can hear, the 2025 Honda Accord might come with some pretty interesting upgrades as well.

Namely, the new generation came only with a 1.5-liter turbo-four and hybrid powertrain, while the peppy 2.0-liter turbo-four has been discontinued. Many enthusiasts felt disappointed by the lack of a more capable version but it looks like Honda is about to compensate for that in the next year, in the form of another, way more capable powertrain. We are still waiting for the officials to say something on this matter.

2025 Honda Accord Could Get Another Hybrid Powertrain!?

As we’ve just mentioned, the new generation brought many improvements but enthusiasts felt a little bit short, as the 2.0-liter turbo-four is no longer available. Instead, the new generation comes with the base 1.5-liter turbo-four, as well as with the new hybrid powertrain. Both of them are great, but the Accord definitely deserves a more capable version on offer as well. According to some sources, this could come with the 2025 Honda Accord.

Allegedly, Honda is working on another hybrid powertrain. That model should feature a plug-in hybrid setup. At this point, it is still unclear whether the new powertrain will be based on the same 2.0-liter inline-four, or it may be based on the turbo-four engine. In any case, we expect to see much more capable electric motors paired with it, as well as a bigger battery. According to the same sources, the max output will go up to over 300 horsepower.

2025 Honda Accord Specs

Other than the potential addition of a PHEV version, the 2025 Honda Accord should carry on with two familiar powertrain options. Therefore, base models will continue with a 1.5-liter turbo-four, which features a max output of around 192 horsepower and comes coupled with a CVT. Driving dynamics are good, while the whole setup feels quite refined. Also, the average fuel economy is pretty decent and goes around 30 mpg in the city and 38 mpg on the highway.

The hybrid version combines a 2.0-liter engine with two electric motors, for a total output of 204 horsepower. Driving dynamics are also very good, and we like the mpg ratings as well. This version returns around 51 mpg in the city and 48 mpg on the highway.

Design

Considering that this is a very fresh model and that the 2025 Honda Accord will represent only the third production year of the generation, we don’t believe that bigger changes could happen in terms of the overall design. The new generation features a more mature and more elegant look than before and the best we could see are new color options and similar minor updates.

The same goes for the mechanics. The Accord features a well-balanced chassis, with an excellent suspension setup, which balances very well between comfort and athleticism. The ride is smooth and comfortable, but the handling feels precise and responsive. Those are the manners you rarely find in this segment, where some of the key competitors are models like the Toyota Camry and Kia K5.

Interior

The same goes for interior design. This is a new model, which brings a completely redesigned dashboard, which follows the same design philosophy as the rest of the lineup, with a nice combination of classic and retro design elements with quality materials and lots of tech and convenience features. Everything feels assembled very well, while you can also notice a lot of attention to detail.

Besides very good build quality, this sedan also offers plenty of passenger space. The cabin is very generous with space in both rows, accommodating adults with ease. The front seats are well-designed, with good support, while the driving position, typically for Honda, is excellent. The cargo area offers around 16.5 cubic feet, which is typical for the class.

2025 Honda Accord Release Date and Price

We expect that the 2025 Honda Accord will arrive sometime in the second half of 2024, with a starting price of around 28.000 dollars.
