The Rancher has always been a special ATV, characterized by so many amazing features. So, the 2023 model year continues in the same manner, offering familiar design and features. We like it because it is ready to deal with any task, whether it’s more about utility or performance. Still, the best thing about it is that everyone can configure a perfect one, considering that there are eight trim levels on offer.
Such a level of customization is a pretty rare thing in this segment, so it seems like a real blessing to have the opportunity to choose between features you need and you don’t need. For example, this model can be configured with the standard transmission or fast-shifting dual-clutch transmission. Furthermore, you can upgrade the Rancher with independent rear suspension, or pick a basic version with a more rigid setup. If need extra convenience, there is electric power steering available for upgrade as well.
The 2023 Honda Fourtrax Rancher remains one of the most desirable ATVs in the class and that is for a big reason.
2023 Honda Fourtrax Rancher Engine Specs
In terms of powertrain, the Rancher relies on Honda’s well-known and proven 420cc single-cylinder four-stroke engine, which comes with two valves per cylinder. The engine features programmed fuel injection, which ensures super smooth operation in all weather conditions. Also, the engine features a semi-dry-sump layout, which makes the engine shorter from top to bottom. For that reason, the Rancher features a lower center of gravity and higher ground clearance at the same time. There are more smart technical solutions, including an in-tank fuel pump for cooler pump operation, which significantly improves the longevity of the pump.
What we particularly like about this ATV is that you have a choice of two types of transmission. Base models come with a conventional automatic transmission with manual shifts, so you can change gears with just a few buttons. For those who look for ultimate performance, there is also an upgrade in terms of a dual-clutch transmission, with super-fast shifts. Of course, you also have a choice between 2WD and 4WD models, where 4WD models offer quick shifts between modes with just one button.
Chassis and Suspension
As we’ve just mentioned, the Rancher is customizable even in this aspect. The base model comes with a more basic rear suspension setup, which includes a classic swingarm with single shock, with 6.7 inches of travel. On the other hand, models with dual-clutch transmission come with independent rear suspension, with dual arms. Of course, the benefits are numerous, starting from much better travel, which goes up to 8.5 inches. Not only that, but this suspension also provides much higher ground clearance, which goes all away up to 9.6 inches. For comparison, standard models feature 7.1 inches of ground clearance. Both versions feature independent double-wishbone front suspension, though models with dual-clutch transmission offer a little bit more travel.
These differences in suspension also determine brake setups. Base models feature discs at the front and old-school drums on the rear end, while versions with independent rear suspension feature discs on both ends of the vehicle.
Dimensions
When it comes to dimensions, the Fourtrax Rancher features 50 inches wheelbase. It is 82.8 inches long, 47.4 inches wide and 46.2 inches high, while the turning radius is 9.2 feet. As we already mentioned, the ground clearance depends on the suspension choice and it goes between 7.1 and 9.6 inches. The curb weight is 580 pounds, while the fuel tank features 3.9 gallons of capacity.
2023 Honda Fourtrax Rancher Comfort and Convenience
This ATV isn’t just capable, but also pretty comfortable and convenient. First of all, there is a nicely designed seat, with an open rider triangle, which ensures not just a high level of comfort but excellent ergonomics as well. Furthermore, we really like the digital instrument cluster, which offers excellent transparency and is fully equipped with the necessary gauges. Some of the highlights are a gear-position indicator, speedometer, odometer, trip meter, and hour meter—you get readouts for fuel level, clock, coolant temperature, speed etc. We should also mention Honda’s well-known “Maintenance Minder”, which reminds you when it’s time to have your Rancher serviced.
Of course, the 2023 Honda Fourtrax Rancher continues with all those practical features, such as front and rear cargo racks. We also like the 1.9-liter front utility box, where you can store your personal belongings, a pair of gloves and similar things.
Another highly convenient feature is the electronic reverse, which lets you easily switch from forward to reverse, with a single lever, which is super convenient in situations where you have to do these switches repeatedly.
2023 Honda Fourtrax Rancher Price and Warranty
The 2023 Honda Fourtrax Rancher starts at around 5.900 dollars. It comes with a one-year limited warranty, which can be extended with Honda’s familiar protection plan.
