2023 Honda Passport TrailSport Review

0

The new 2023 Honda Passport TrailSport is a mid-grade trim that will go on sale in August. This model sits above the base EX-L model and below the top-spec Elite. In case you didn’t know, Honda’s larger three-row Pilot gained a similar TrailSport package last year.

Unlike the original model, the TrailSport makes this SUV model unique thanks to many modifications. First of all, it features a new hood, revised front and rear bumpers, and a much more attractive grille. As the standard Passport, the new TrailSport uses the same standard 3.5-liter V-6 that delivers a strong output of 280 horsepower. The engine as before comes standard with a smooth-shifting nine-speed automatic transmission.

Opposite to the standard variant, the 2023 Honda Passport TrailSport looks way aggressive. The Passport’s TrailSport treatment is mostly visible outside thanks to eye-catchy gloss black grille, badging, and 20-inch rollers with a greater offset.

However, we must mention that other Passport models are available with 18-inch wheels. Unfortunately, there’s no suspension lift, unlike we saw on the TrailSport version of the Pilot. Although, the all-wheel-drive is standard, and there is 8.1 inches of ground clearance. This is still enough to bypass many smaller obstacles. You can basically navigate with ease through light mud, modestly steep inclines, and rocky trails without worries.

Spacious and Modern Interior

The cabin of the 2023 Honda Passport TrailSpoert is wide and spacious. As the regular model, the new TrailSport offers the same rear seating accommodation for adult-sized occupants. Considering that there is no third row, you’ll get with this SUV a massive 41 cubic feet of trunk space with the seats up, and 77 cubic with folded seats.

Anyway, the styling inside is great and just like the original model, the TrailSport comes with the same multimedia, which is very responsive on touch. As standard, this model also includes orange-accented TrailSport emblems, navigation, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and smartphone mirroring systems.

2023 Honda Passport TrailSport Engine Specs

Under the hood, the new 2023 Honda Passport TrailSport model uses the same engine as the standard Passport model. That means we can expect a 3.5-liter V6 powertrain that delivers a strong 280 horsepower. It is worth mentioning that the Passport is able to run from 0 to 60 mph in 6.0 seconds.

All Passport models can tow up to 5000 pounds, while the TrailSport gets the same EPA fuel-economy estimates of 19 mpg city and 24 highways.

2023 Honda Passport TrailSport Release Date, Price

The forthcoming Honda’s off-road-oriented TrailSport is expected to go on sale later this year. As we said, the SUV slots in as the new midgrade trim level starting at $43,695. As you can see, it sits above the base EX-L model and below the top-spec Elite. However, unlike the other models, the TrailSport looks more attractive thanks to a new hood, revised front and rear bumpers, and a better-looking grille.

Overall, as you may notice, the changes are mostly cosmetic, so there are no suspension lift or skid plates available on the new off-road model, which is very odd.
