It’s been a while since the current generation was introduced to the market but that model still looks pretty fresh, which clearly indicates that we won’t be seeing bigger updates in the near future. Moreover, this model is considered one of the best models in the compact car segment, so there’s no doubt that the Japanese manufacturer plans to carry on in the same way, without bigger changes. We expect to see the same design from the 2024 Honda Civic Sedan and hatchback, though some rumors suggest that the former could be updated with a new powertrain. Allegedly, the new hybrid system could be introduced to the U.S. market.
On the other hand, the overall layout will remain the same, whether it’s about aesthetics or mechanics. This sedan has a lot of great things to offer, starting from the attractive aesthetics, engaging handling, well-designed and spacious interior etc. Despite the potential powertrain update, we don’t believe that the 2024 Honda Civic Sedan could arrive much earlier than usual, which means we should see it in the last quarter of 2023.
2024 Honda Civic Sedan Could Get New Hybrid Powertrain
As we’ve just mentioned, one of the possibilities for the 2024 Honda Civic Sedan is to see a new powertrain option, a hybrid powertrain. That version was already introduced in Europe, though in hatchback body style, and it features Honda’s new hybrid system, which combines a 2.0-liter gasoline engine with two electric motors, for a total output of 181 horsepower and 232 pound-feet of torque. What’s interesting is that this system moves the vehicle mostly with electric motors, while the engine works as a power generator. It sends power to the wheels only under heavy acceleration, so we also count on good fuel economy.
On the other hand, the rest of the lineup should carry on in the same engines, starting from the good-old 2.0-liter inline-four, which puts out around 158 horsepower. Of course, there is also a more modern and more potent 1.5-liter turbo-four, which puts out 180 horsepower and 177 pound-feet of torque. Both engines come coupled with a CVT.
Finally, there is the sporty Civic Si, equipped with a more powerful variant of the 1.5-liter turbo-four, which puts out 200 horsepower and comes with a 6-speed manual transmission.
2024 Honda Civic Sedan Design
While the new powertrain options seem quite possible, we don’t believe that the 2024 Honda Civic Sedan could bring bigger changes in terms of the overall design. Therefore, we expect to see the same layout, which offers a pretty good chassis and suspension setup, which offers a pretty good balance between comfort and athleticism. All models come standard with multi-link independent rear suspension, which isn’t always the case in this class.
In terms of aesthetics, the sedan features a slightly different rear-end design compared to the hatchback. It comes with a bit of a sloping roof design, which makes this sedan look like a four-door coupe. Interestingly, it is four inches longer than the hatchback, even though the wheelbase is the same.
Interior
Once again, we expect to see a typical carryover model in this aspect. The current generation features one of the nicest cabins in the class, characterized by attractive aesthetics and pretty impressive build quality. The materials are nice, and the attention to detail is very good. Also, the sound insulation is notably better compared to the previous generation.
The Civic sedan is one of the largest vehicles in the class, so it’s no wonder that the amount of passenger space is very generous. The front seats are shaped pretty well, while the second row offers plenty of legroom. However, the headroom may be a little bit problematic for taller passengers in the back, due to the sloping roofline. The cargo area offers around 15 cubic feet of trunk space, which is typical for the class.
Trim Levels and Features
Updates in this aspect are always possible, so we might see some of them in the 2024 Honda Civic sedan as well. Still, we are pretty sure that most things are about to remain the same, so the base Sport trim should continue with goodies like 18-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, remote ignition, keyless entry, automatic climate control, height-adjustable driver’s seat, 7-inch infotainment system, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, 8-speaker audio system etc.
The EX trim is the next one in the lineup and besides the turbocharged engine, it also comes standard with heated mirrors, a sunroof, dual-zone climate control, heated front seats, additional USB etc.
The Touring trim is where things start to become quite luxurious. This version adds standard features like automatic wipers, foglights, auto-dimming rearview mirror, leather upholstery, power-adjustable front seats, a 9-inch infotainment screen, wireless smartphone integration, Bose audio system, satellite radio and more.
Driver enthusiasts can go with the Si trim, with a more powerful engine, manual transmission and upgrades like sport suspension, bigger brakes, limited-slip front differential, performance tires etc.
2024 Honda Civic Sedan Release Date and Price
As there are no significant changes to come, we presume that the 2024 Honda Civic Sedan will hit the market sometime in the last quarter of the year, with a starting price of around 25.000 dollars.
