For a long time, the Odyssey has been the best-selling minivan on the U.S. market but these days, things are a little bit different. Although the current generation is still an amazing vehicle, it lags behind two of the key competitors, the Toyota Sienna and Chrysler Pacifica. There could be various reasons but one of the things that come to mind is that the Odyssey lacks a couple of things when compared to these rivals – all-wheel drive and a hybrid powertrain. Therefore, it’s no wonder that various reports are suggesting that the next year’s model could come with these enhancements, such as 2024 Honda Odyssey AWD Hybrid.
At this point, the officials are still quiet, so we suggest you stay reserved for these rumors. However, that doesn’t matter that we can’t speculate about the possible changes and upgrades over the standard, gasoline-powered version. Of course, the most important change would be the new powertrain and drivetrain but could this minivan get some other upgrades as well? Let’s try to find out in the following paragraphs.
2024 Honda Odyssey AWD Hybrid Powertrain
So, the first thing that comes to mind about the 2024 Honda Odyssey AWD Hybrid is its powertrain and drivetrain setup. The current model, although closely related to Pilot, isn’t available with all-wheel drive. Instead, it comes only in an FWD configuration, powered by a pretty capable 3.5-liter V6, which is good for about 280 horsepower and comes with a 9-speed automatic transmission.
So, the Odyssey AWD Hybrid would feature a little bit different setup. We presume that the company is working on a new hybrid system and a big portion of sources suggest this will be a classic, self-charging hybrid. Most likely, a four-cylinder engine would be used as a basis, and it would get help from at least two electric motors. There would be no differential, but rather an electric motor mounted on the rear axle, to provide all-wheel drive.
Some sources also suggest a plug-in hybrid setup, with more powerful electric motors and higher total output. However, details are still unavailable.
In both cases, the powertrain would probably come coupled with a CVT, instead of the conventional 9-speed automatic transmission.
2024 Honda Odyssey AWD Hybrid Design
Other than the powertrain, we don’t believe that the 2024 Honda Odyssey AWD Hybrid could feature significant changes. Of course, we could see a couple of details that accentuate the model’s electrified nature, but the overall styling would be the same as in the standard model. Of course, this would include all the changes that were introduced with the 2021 facelift, when this minivan received new headlights, a new grille etc.
In terms of the chassis and suspension setup, we don’t expect to see any notable changes. The overall setup will remain the same, which means that you may expect the same ride quality, which is surprisingly engaging for a minivan.
On the inside, we definitely don’t expect to see changes. The 2024 Honda Odyssey AWD Hybrid would feature the same interior design as the standard model, which already has a lot of good things to offer. We really like the dashboard design, which is modern and full of quality materials. Furthermore, there is a generous offer of standard and available tech and convenience features, which make the cabin look even more upscale.
Also, the Odyssey is pretty generous with passenger space, in all three rows accommodate adults with ease. Furthermore, the seats are comfortable and shaped pretty well. On the other hand, the main complaint goes to the cargo area. It doesn’t lack space but lacks functionality, due to the fact that second-row seats don’t fold flat and have to be physically removed. Due to the battery pack, things could get even worse with the hybrid model.
At this point, it’s hard to say whether the 2024 Honda Odyssey AWD Hybrid would be reserved for higher trim levels, or we would see it available across the whole range. For reference, base models come with things like an 8-inch touch screen, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, satellite radio, HD Radio, two USB ports, Bluetooth, a seven-speaker audio system, tri-zone automatic climate control, proximity keyless entry and push-button start.
Also, the current model is available with upgrades like a Wi-Fi hot spot, wireless device charging, navigation, a rear-seat entertainment system, an 11-speaker premium audio system, additional USB ports, a universal garage-door opener, a 115-volt household-style power outlet, ambient interior LED lighting, a power liftgate, a hands-free power liftgate etc.
2024 Honda Odyssey AWD Hybrid Release Date and Price
The 2024 Honda Odyssey AWD Hybrid is just a rumor for now and it’s hard to tell whether it’s coming or not. If it arrives one day, we presume that the price could be notably higher compared to the standard gasoline model, which starts at around 38.000 dollars.
