Last year, the Japanese manufacturer brought back one of the most important nameplates in Acura’s history, the Integra. This small sports car was produced until 2006 and even today, it is widely recognized as the best-handling FWD car ever made. The last generation of it was renamed RSX and after the recent Integra comeback, many wonder if the RSX nameplate could be revived as well. At this point, the officials are still quiet. However, we know that the Japanese company is working on a high-performance version of the new Integra and many believe that this particular model could carry this moniker, along with the Type S badge. In other words, the high-performance Integra would eventually come as the Acura RSX Type S.
This model would come with all kinds of upgrades over the standard Integra, starting from the bigger and more powerful engine, various chassis and suspension upgrades and unique styling details. However, keep in mind that this is still pure speculation and that the officials are still quiet. Although it doesn’t sound entirely unlikely, it seems more probable that this version will simply be called the Integra Type S.
Acura RSX Type S Design
So, the new Acura RSX Type S would be heavily based on the new Integra, which means that most of the parts would be shared with the Civic Sedan. Compared to Integra, we presume there would be all kinds of upgrades, starting from some chassis and suspension modification. We would expect to see further reinforcements, along with a new suspension, with a similar setup to the Civic Type R.
Of course, we expect a lot in terms of aesthetics as well. The overall styling would be the same as on the Integra, but with various upgrades, starting from the more aggressive front face, additional body parts like a rear spoiler, exclusive wheels, and similar things.
Interior
Exclusive interior details are expected too. At this point, it’s early to talk about specifics but we presume that the Acura RSX Type S interior would include exclusive color schemes, along with exclusive materials. Of course, the instrument cluster would probably be different, as well as the steering wheel. Upgraded seats are possible too.
On the other hand, the overall cabin layout would remain the same, with the same seating configuration. Unlike the original, this model will come with a more practical 4-door layout, which would provide easier access to the second row of seats, which should be quite generous with space.
Acura RSX Type S Engine
Things are pretty clear here. The Acura RSX Type S would come as a high-performance version of Integra and, therefore, most parts would be shared with the Civic Type R, including the engine. We would expect to see the same 2.0-liter turbo-four engine, probably with the same or very similar power figures. The legendary engine has been updated and now puts out around 315 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque.
Of course, the engine would come exclusively with a 6-speed manual transmission, for a guaranteed driving experience. The power would be sent to the front wheels, as expected, while we also count on a limited-slip differential at the front. When it comes to fuel economy, we expect to see something around 22 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway.
Acura RSX Type S Release Date and Price
We expect that the Acura RSX Type S could arrive already in the next year. Although it’s still early for precise estimations, we believe that this sports car could cost around 50.000 dollars.
