The next-gen hot hatch 2022 Honda Civic Type R has been spied for the first time this year on German roads. At first glance, this model looks more attractive and is likely to be unveiled in late 2021 as 2022YM. The latest images reveal heavily camouflaged Honda Civic Type R that doesn’t appear radically different from its predecessor.
The overall body shape looks familiar, but we can see some changes like wider wheels and lower springs/air systems/hydraulics. Like before, the same prominent rear wing is available and it gives a more sporty look.
2022 Honda Civic Type R Styling Changes
The first spy photos of the upcoming 2022 Honda Civic Type R are available. This model seems refreshed, but nothing significant. A close look reveals that the front and rear lights are different. With that, we mean that they are sharper than before.
On the back, the 2022 Honda Civic Type R sports a big spoiler that is raised and it no longer appears to dissect the rear window. The disadvantage this time is that the next model doesn’t feature a centrally mounted exhaust system. However, further visible changes include a lower bonnet line, lower shoulder line, and lower headlights.
Spy Shots of the Cabin Reveals Some Refreshments
There is no much information regarding the cabin of the new 2022 Honda Civic Type R. However, we have one spy shot that reveals some changes inside. This image shows that the next-gen model will get a different and bigger steering wheel and the new dashboard designs.
Alongside that, we can also see a new dashtop-mounted touchscreen. Although, from the latest report, this is just a beginning of changes. Buyers can also expect great comfort for all passengers and big technology update. The caught model is in the early testing stage and we assume that there will be more changes on the final version.
What Engine Does the 2022 Civic Type R Have?
The newest Honda Civic Type R will be definitively powered by the potent engine. According to many speculations, this model will use the same powertrain that is under the NSX supercar.
This means that Honda Civic Type R will use a twin-turbo 3.5-litre V6 that is paired with three electric motors. Thanks to this combination, this unit produces a total of 573 hp. The less powerful version might use a 2.0-litre petrol engine combined with electric motors. It’s still unclear if this model will use a front, rear or four-wheel-drive system.
How Much Is a 2022 Honda Civic Type R?
The famous Japanese carmaker will make two-thirds of its sales electrified by 2025. Besides, we can expect all Europeans cars from this manufacturer to be electrified by that date. One thing is for sure, the next-generation Civic won’t be built at Honda’s Swindon plant because that plant will be closed in 2021. The next-gen model will be unveiled in late 2021 as 2022YM.
However, it’s still unclear where the company intends to produce the next-generation sports car. The Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) for the current Honda Civic Type R is $36,595, including the $895 destination charge. However, with the new-generation, we can expect significant price boost.
